NEW YORK DAY 2

Day two was absolutely freezing, I literally had five layers on and was still cold! We decided to walk to Brooklyn bridge on this day which was a bit of a mistake as we didn't realise it would be a two and a half hour walk! We did however get to know the city a little bit better this way and saw some amazing street art and shops.

Later on in the day we had a basketball game booked as we thought it would be a really different experience for us all. We saw Brooklyn nets Vs Atlanta hawks and it was so good! The atmosphere was really different. We found out that Brooklyn nets was Jay-z's team he supports but unfortunately he wasn't there haha!

Day three will be up soon!

NEW YORK DAY 1

So i've pretty much recovered from the jetlag and hangover from the first day back to uni and am ready to tell you al about my amazing trip to New York. I cant even begin to describe how much I love New York and how much I didn't want to leave! We pretty much ticked everything off our longggg list and packed everything in! It was tiring to say the least but so worth it! Although I must say, I don't think I will ever crack the underground in New York, that just baffled me. One day we were literally trying to find out where we had to go for two and a half hours and finally ended up getting outside to discover no daylight haha. I will be posting a short photo series of each day in New York, similar to what I did with my cruise I went on in summer.
So on day one we arrived at the Wolcott hotel at half five which didn't really give us much time to do much after unpacking our bags and finding our rooms in the hotel. I'm not going to lie, the Wolcott was pretty terrifying considering as soon as we got there people started saying it was haunted, especially in the hallways and on the 14th floor (thank god I was on the 9th!). It looked like it had once been very grand in its day but is now slightly run down and a bit spooky! It didn't really matter much to us though as it was just a place to sleep and keep our bags!
Later on we decided to visit times square as it was pretty close to our hotel and obviously looks better at nighttime with all of the neon lights and advertisements! It was surprisingly not very busy when we went which was good in a way so we could get lots of clear photos (Ive got to say.. our Instagram's are looking pretty good right now! Mine is georgialewisc if you didn't already know). After exploring times square a little bit in the freezing cold we all decided to go for some food and ended up spending ridiculous amounts of money on overpriced pizzas (one girl ended up spending $50 on a pizza and drink!).
We of course went in a few shops and may have made a few small purchases in Sephora! (oops). And of course we had to visit the huge Victoria's Secret sale. As you can tell, we didn't have much time to do anything else so we decided to have an early night and get ready for our next day in the big apple!
Day two will be coming very soon!

I have always wanted to visit the 9/11 memorial, after hearing about it every year on the news it never fails to upset or shock me. I think it would be a sad visit but important to see in my opinion.

So theres just a few places I hope to visit, i'm only going for a short amount of time but i'll hopefully visit some of them! There is so many other smaller places I would like to visit but i'm sure I will update you on where I end up!

SPOTIFY MARKETING

I know I may be a little late on noticing this one but I have to mention spotify's clever new marketing strategy brought out at the end of 2016 which has been all over my social medias! They did a twist and made it really fun and interesting for people to look at and relate to. They based their new ad's on collected data from their users and topics relevant to 2016. They made something usually boring and irrelevant to people fun and humorous to read. This is a completely new and exciting approach to marketing and I hope to see many more brands pick up on this. Below is just a couple I have collected to show you all, there are so many more!

You just cant help smiling at them! The bold colours also really catch your eye so you cannot miss these ad's! Let me know what you thought about them.

LONDON DAY TRIP

For my mums 50th birthday I decided to take her to London for the day to go for afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason and go and watch The Nutcracker at the London Coliseum. We also decided to take a little trip to the V&A museum to have a look at whats on at the moment! I wanted to share a few pictures from the day with you all.

I spotted some puffer jackets on the tube! perfect for my trend although not exactly tough 90's style!

I thought these trainers were a feminine take on my tough 90s trend at the V&A museum! Unfortunately you were not allowed to take any photographs of the two exhibitions on at the moment- 'Undressed' and 'So you say you want a revolution'.

I did however, manage to get some sneaky photographs of the jewellery part of the V&A, this was before getting told off. I just love anything that sparkles!

I loved these two dresses found in the theatre section of the V&A, fortunately I was allowed to get some good photos of these two!

These were two of my favourite photographs found in the Photography section. The first ones 'Dressed and Undressed' are by Helmut Newton. These images were first published in French and Italian Vogue as they were considered too risque for American publishing which wasn't anything new for Newton. i love how the women look equally as confident, dressed or not. The second image 'Fashion-able' was taken by Nick Knight. It was taken of Paralympian and double amputee Aimee Mullins and was in an issue of Dazed and Confused magazine which was edited by Alexander McQueen. I love what this image was trying to say and how it defies traditional conventions of beauty.

A few more images I liked, the second one in particular which was by Tim Walker featuring Lily Cole.

London looking pretty before all of the Christmas lights get taken down and all of the teas in Fortnum and Mason.

We had a little wander around Fortnum and Mason itself before heading upstairs to the tea room. The fragrance stand and shower cap wall were two of my favourite features in the shop!

Our lovely afternoon tea setup and outside before we watched the Nutcracker ballet. We had a lovely day out to London, I don't know why I don't go more often!

CRUSHING ON VELVET

Velvet has been getting more and more popular the past few weeks and i have to say, I am pretty much obsessed. Especially with that blush pink crushed velvet effect (Yes I may have purchased a few items in this material). It hasn't just been popular in affordable high-street stores though.. the likes of Valentino, Roksanda, Alberts Ferretti and Osman are just a few designers that have been loving the trend for AW16. I wanted to pick out some key velvet items I have been LOVING recently and what I think is perfect for the winter, party season!

Pretty Little Thing:
This dress it just my style, I love the cut, colour and texture of it. This is definitely going to be purchased by me very soon for the Christmas or New Year parties coming up! With some metallic or nude heels and a smokey eye and nude lip it will be perfect! Missguided are also doing very similar dresses with this material but this one is my fave.

Topshop:
Another dress I have been loving it this one! I actually own this one myself and have been loving wearing it. I like how it can be worn in the daytime with a long sleeved plain black top and tights or at nighttime with some strappy heels and a little bit more makeup on! A very simple dress but a key item in my wardrobe now!

Missguided:
I'm even loving the crushed velvet boots! I think this is a bit more of a bolder look to go for but nether the less, I still love it! I definitely want some of these in my shoe collection. I have seen quite a few pairs of crushed velvet boots recently but I particularly love this pair from Missguided.. my fave colour too!

New Look:
The classic black playsuit with a twist.. Just like a little black dress but a bit more fun! Everyone owns a classic black playsuit i'm sure. I love the twist on this one with the popular, in-trend chocker element and the subtle black velvet material. These two elements also seem to make this item more dressy and perfect for a night out. Topshop also do a similar style.

Puma:
Now I am not normally a trainer kind of girl but these Puma velvet creepers I would wear! Its such a girly, feminine thing to do to a trainer but I love it! Public desire are doing their own kind of version with some more funky colours.Image result for puma velvet creepers

So there is just a snippet of the gorgeous velvet items out there at the moment. I am absolutely loving this trend at the moment. Let me know what you think of it in the comments down below.

SUMMATIVE BRIEF

All FCP students have recently been given their individual summative briefs which is basically everything we have done up to now, all over again, but on our own! (ahh). It will involve producing a report document created on indesign (not my strongest point!) as well as continuing with our sketchbooks, blogs and creative ideas!
For the context part, we have each been allocated a fashion trend for Autumn/Winter 2016 which we will have to carry out primary and secondary research for. We will need to produce a 500 word report for this.

We have also been allocated a non-fashion brand and product for our Big Idea which we will need to document our brainstorms and ideas for in our sketchbooks (I have to admit, this was definitely my least favourite brief out of all of them!). We will need to define our chosen idea for the concept and brand combination and create a 15 word statement for it.

For the creative concept part we will need to create three mood-boards with three distinctive, alternative interpretations of the big ideas we came up with.

In the final execution part we need to pick one of the three big ideas created to develop. We will need to communicate our idea through a chosen social media platform and consider our target consumers whilst being creative and experimental!

The final thing we have to do will involve writing a 500 word report with illustrations and referencing. So as you can see it is quite a lot of work but very exciting at the same time. I have already started researching into my fashion trend which is the 'tough 90's' and am still baffled by my non-fashion brand and product which is is a soap dispenser and 'JML'! I hope to keep you updated throughout my research and new ideas I find along the way.
